39 Year with Brecknock YFC
Following almost forty years of dedicated service Brecknock YFC has said goodbye to its most familiar and respected member of staff – Mrs Christine Skyrme.
It was in 1978 that the then Chrsitine Jones joined Miss Vera Jones and Peggy Goodwin at 8 Ship Street, the first offices from which she was to operate. During the ensuing years Chris would certainly establish herself as a most dedicated and valuable member of staff, supporting seven County Organisers and servicing as many as eighteen clubs at one time including Christ College, Penlan and Gwernyfed Schools.
Universally popular, Chris unique disposition endeared her to generations of Young Farmers across the County. Her calming influence and willingness to help, along with her warm and pleasant personality at the end of the phone was appreciated by all; indeed, for many Chris was a true Samaritan.
Having served the County for over half its seventy-five-year existence, Christine's term has amazingly eclipsed the late Miss Vera Jones’ twenty-nine years as the County’s longest serving employee.
Chris was recognised for her long service to the organisation at the Royal Welsh Show where she was presented with a long service award to the agricultural industry. The ceremony took place on the Tuesday of the Show, where a good crowd from Brecknock turned out to support her and cheer while being presented with her long service award.
